FAYETTE — The students and staff at Fayette Central School may find the inside temperatures more comfortable soon.
Poor temperature control was traced to some faulty equipment, Town Manager Mark Robinson said Thursday. Selectmen earlier this week voted to hire a mechanical services technician to assess the school’s air exchange system.
Robinson said the technician found four non-functioning vent actuators as well as a broken electric motor that controls the blower system. Robinson said he is awaiting a cost estimate for repairs and hopes to have them completed by the end of the month. The town owns the school property.
In other business this week, selectmen voted to join forces with Readfield and apply for a mobile generator the two communities could share for use in emergencies.
Robinson said selectmen authorized him to prepare the application for a Homeland Securities grant.
Robinson said the towns hope to obtain a 54-kilowatt generator, which he said would be powerful enough to run the school.
A generator of the that size would cost about $25,000, Robinson said. There is no local match required for the grant. The generator would be housed in Fayette’s public works facility, Robinson said.
