SKOWHEGAN — A grand jury in Somerset County has indicted a Bowdoin man on charges related to a hit-and-run in Madison that seriously injured a well-known Cornville couple.

Edward McGuire, 62, was indicted on two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of aggravated criminal operating under the influence, two counts of leaving the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury or death, and two counts of driving to endanger.

McGuire was driving a 1993 Grand Jeep Cherokee south on Boardman Road on May 13 when he failed to stop at the intersection with Route 43 and hit Daniel and Sharon Kinney, who were driving through the intersection on a motorcycle, Somerset County Chief Deputy Michael Mitchell said at the time.

After striking the motorcycle, McGuire fled the scene but was followed by a witness who later worked with others to hold McGuire until police arrived, Mitchell said. The couple’s son, Derrick Kinney, said a few days after the collision that his parents were seriously injured and had to undergo several surgeries.

An indictment is not a determination of guilt but indicates enough evidence exists for a case to move forward to trial.

Also indicted by the grand jury, which met Aug. 25, were:
