In a recent article it was reported that Paul LePage threatened “to deck” a political tracker for violating his personal space. The excuse that LePage’s behavior is based on his difficult upbringing has been offered by some. I offer a less complicated explanation that LePage is simply a bully.
I understand there are many influences on a young person that contribute to character development in either a positive or negative way. I’ll offer former President Trump as an example of a bully coming from privilege. During the 2016 election, LePage claimed that he was ”Trump before Trump.” On that I can firmly agree.
Democracy is not best served by finger pointing, name calling, vulgarity, and contempt or threats as characterized by bullies. Maine citizens deserve leadership of the highest character.
