BURLINGTON, Vt. — Joey Diamond and Spencer Abbott both scored two goals as the University of Maine men’s hockey team beat Vermont 5-1 on Saturday.

Maine swept the two-game series with Vermont to improve to 6-6-2, 5-5-1 in Hockey East play. Vermont falls to 3-10-1, 1-8-1 in the conference.

Diamond scored twice in the first period as the Black Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Abbott then scored two straight in the second period to make it 4-0. Matt Mangene also scored as Maine went up 5-0 early in the third period.

Will O’Neil and Abbott each had two assists for Maine, while Mangene, Diamond, Brian Flynn and Brice O’Connor each had one. Dan Sullivan made 28 saves to earn the win.

John Vazzano had 18 saves for Vermont.

Colby 4, Bowdoin 3: The Mules rallied from three-goals down and scored three goals in the final 6:30 of the game to beat the Polar Bears in Brunswick.

Mike Doherty scored the game-winner with 1:11 left in regulation for Colby (2-4-0). Nick Lanza scored the tying goal at 16:17. Ben Chwick and Spike Smigelski also scored for Colby.

Matt Delaney made 29 saves for the Mules.
