AUGUSTA — Detectives are investigating a report of an armed robbery at Camden National Bank on Saturday at about 11:30 a.m.

The suspect was described as a man who displayed a handgun at the bank, according to initial emergency dispatches. He was last seen leaving on foot and wearing a black mask and brown coat, according to the 11:43 a.m. report. An additional report described him as 5 feet 10 inches tall, “skinny” and wearing black pants with a stripe running down them.

Sgt. Todd Nyberg of the Augusta Police Department said Sunday that he could only confirm that an incident occurred at the bank and that detectives were on the scene conducting an investigation.

Nyberg said no one was hurt as a result of the incident and that the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the response.

The sergeant said he could not confirm if any money was stolen, as he had not yet had a chance to speak with detectives since the incident occurred.

No suspects were apprehended as of 3:30 p.m., Nyberg said.

“An arrest has not been made at this point,” he said, “and I don’t have any names of anybody they’re specifically looking for at this time.”

He said police would release more information as the investigation continues.
