BREWER — Danielle Spauling scored 12 points and Brianna Soucy added eight as the Lawrence High School girls basketball team earned a 48-45 win over Brewer in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A opener for both teams Friday night.
Jordyn Towers added seven points for Lawrence.
Lindsey Houp scored a game-high 19 points for Brewer (0-1).
Nokomis 60, Winslow 23: Kelsie Richards had 16 points to lead the defending Eastern B champion Warriors to a season-opening win over the Black Raiders in Newport.
Marissa Shaw added 15 points, while Kylie Richards had 11 for Nokomis (1-0).
Jordyn Pomerleau and Elizabeth Ferry each had six for Winslow (0-1).
Messalonskee 68, Erskine 51: Mary Badeen had 19 points as Messalonskee won its opener in South China.
Megan Pelletier added 15 points for Messalonskee (1-0), which jumped out to a 22-5 lead and made 11 3-pointers.
Amy Phillips had 13 points and 12 rebounds for Erskine (0-1), while Bridget Humphrey added seven points and 10 rebounds.
Skowhegan 47, Mt. Blue 46: AJ Martineau scored 17 points and Amanda Johnson added 13 to lead the Indians in an Eastern A game at Skowhegan.
Chelsey whittemore added two points and seven rebounds for Skowhegan as well.
Gabby Foye led Mt. Blue (0-1) with 14 points.
Vinalhaven 69, Forest Hills 67, OT: Izzy Drury scored 17 points and Ashley Hamilton added 16 as Vinalhaven (1-0) won a wild game in Jackman.
Sophomore guard Kori Coro scored 19 points for Forest Hills (0-1), while sophomore Dana McNally scored 17 and freshman Haley Cuddy added 14. Forest Hills hit 10 3-pointers, including five by Coro, but Vinalhaven outscored the hosts 22-11 at the free-throw line.
Buckfield 44, Valley 28: Kaitlin Rines led a balanced attack with 12 points on four 3-pointers to lead Buckfield (1-0).
Hali McQuilkin led Valley (0-1) with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Teagan Laweryson finished with eight points, seven rebounds and two assists.
