Nathalie Turbyne Stevens
WATERVILLE – Nathalie Turbyne Stevens, 97, of Waterville passed from this life to the next with the grace, sense of humor and strength with which she lived. She was born in Winslow on Sept. 18, 1925, the youngest child of Alexander and Maude (Ranco) Turbyne. Nat married Glenn R. Stevens on June 20, 1948, at the old First Congressional Church on Silver Street. Theirs was a long and devoted marriage of nearly 63 years and he has been greatly missed since his unexpected passing in May of 2010.
Nathalie graduated from Winslow High School in the class of 1942, and worked at Hollingsworth and Whitney prior to her marriage to Glenn. First settling together in Schenectady, New York, she traveled with Glenn throughout his career, living in various locations including Florida, before settling in Marlton, New Jersey. Throughout these times they gathered and kept in touch with the lifelong friends they met along the way. Nat could always be counted on for that special birthday card, a life update, congratulations or a thank you note. Always making that extra effort to stay connected with friends and family.
During Nat and Glenn’s life together, they regularly visited family and friends and traveled the world together. Every location was well documented by Glenn in photographs and videos. Upon retirement they moved back to Waterville to be near family. Here they made new friends in the neighborhood, at church and through their daily trips to the pool. Nat was a member of the First Congregational Church of Waterville and a longtime volunteer at Maine General Hospital -Thayer Unit where her smiling, friendly manner, helped those in need well into her 90s.
Nathalie was predeceased by her dear husband Glenn, all of her siblings and their spouses, John and Mary Turbyne of Winslow, Frank and Emerald Turbyne of Portsmouth and Alexander and Pauline Turbyne of Winslow and her sister Cecile T. and Ken Myrick of Cincinnati, as well as a niece, a grandniece and a nephew. She is survived by nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and great grand nieces and nephews.
Nat felt that she was blessed throughout her life to have good family and friends. She was thankful for all those special neighbors and friends who provided encouragement and support for her to stay safe in her home and also to the staff at Beacon Hospice.
A memorial service will be held on Nov. 9, 2022, at 11 a.m., at Veilleux and Redington Funeral Home, 8 Elm Street in Waterville. Burial for family only will follow, at Pine Grove Cemetery in Waterville.
