GARDINER — Police are looking for a man who pushed a woman down and stole her purse Tuesday.

Gardiner Police Chief James Toman said a woman called police around 6 p.m. Tuesday after she was reportedly attacked outside her Cherry Street home.

“The victim walked to her vehicle to make sure it was locked,” Toman said. “She alleges someone came up from behind her and pushed her down and stole her purse.”

The robber reportedly fled on foot up Cherry Street.

Gardiner Police and a Maine State Police Trooper with a dog tracked the suspect, but were unable to find him, Toman said. There were no reports of a weapon, he said.

Police said the suspect is a man, but have no additional description available.

Police asked that anyone with information about the case to call Gardiner police at 582-5150.
