On Wednesday night before Thanksgiving I hit a deer on Route 17 in Manchester. Although scary, the following hours and days were positive because of the wonderful community we live in.

Dennis, the owner of Lakeside Orchard, offered us the warmth of his store while we made the appropriate telephone calls. Sgt. Dutil of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office, along with Frank of the Manchester Fire Department, met us and both were extremely courteous, professional, and compassionate, asking us several times if we were OK. They made arrangements to have the deer picked up, completed the accident report and provided us with info we would need for our insurance company.

We then made a call to Al from Parks Towing and he arrived shortly after the call. He was friendly and we made arrangements to have our car towed to Bubs Auto on Route 3 in Augusta on Friday morning.

On Friday we met with Bub and we were confident that our car repairs were in great hands because of Bubs’ expertise and years of experience. We then met with Eileen at State Farm Insurance Dennis Keller. Eileen’s extensive knowledge coupled with her calm demeanor provided us with our policy information that we needed in order to discuss car rental options.

Vincent and Erik at Enterprise were efficient and gave us options, pricing and the timeline of receiving the agreed upon rental.

It was obvious from each of these encounters that we were dealing with people who cared and were not just “doing their job well” but understood that we are all neighbors in a community that cares for each other. We are acknowledging these wonderful individuals and thank each of them for their help as we navigated through this difficult experience.
