Gloria M. Borgese

PITTSTON / WATERVILLE – Gloria M. Borgese, 91, died peacefully in her sleep on Jan. 2, 2023, at Mount Saint Joseph Nursing Home in Waterville, where she resided for the past six years. Gloria previously resided in Pittston, Maine and Bronx, N.Y.

Born in Manhattan, New York, May 12, 1931, Gloria was the daughter of Kitty (Peck) and Alfred Borgese, Sr. Gloria attended Washington Irving High School and the Queens Beauty Institute. She was managing partner of Vairo’s of Italy in Bronx, NY, for over a decade. Gloria excelled as a beautician, stylist, and colorist. She loved and was loved by her many regular customers.

Gloria retired to Maine in the early 1980s to be close to her family. She loved the peace and quiet of country living in her little house on Arnold Road. As a young woman she enjoyed acting and singing in the community theatre and maintained a lifelong love of Broadway shows and music. In her retirement she worked at Chernowsky’s Clothing Store, Mr. Paperback, the Department of Agriculture, Food & Rural Resources, and Goodwill Industries.

Gloria is survived by her brother Alfred R. Borgese Jr. of Peabody, Mass. and Cape Coral, Fla.., her niece Lisa Borgese Gomes and husband Fernando, great niece and nephew Sophia Gomes and Alex Gomes of Peabody, Mass., her nephew Robert Borgese and wife Edie, great niece and nephew June and Leopold Borgese of Pleasanton, Calf.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Mount St. Joseph’s and Beacon Hospice for the care and compassion that they showed during her residence, and especially in her final days. Gloria enjoyed her time at Mount Saint Joseph and made many friends over the years.

Gloria’s Visiting hours will be in the Knowlton & Hewins Funeral, One Church St, Augusta, on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2023, from 1 – 3 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Gloria will be buried next to her mother, at St. Raymond’s Cemetery, Bronx, NY.
