Mid-Coast Audubon will accept bird seed orders until 5 p.m. Saturday, March 11, to raise funds to support bird conservation and education programming.

Orders can be placed through its website, or by a mail-in form available at midcoast.maineaudubon.org.

Seed must be picked up from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 18, at one of two locations: Plants Unlimited, 629 Commercial St. in Rockport, or Lincoln County Publishing, 116 Mills Road in Newcastle. People should specify a pick-up site on the order form.

Five varieties will be offered: Black oil sunflower seed, 20 pounds for $23, 40 pounds for $38; Sunflower meaties (hulled), 25 pounds for $33, or 50 pounds for $56; Melody Mix, 20 pounds for $21, 40 pounds for $31; Thistle (Nyger), 5 pounds for $14; and Suet blocks, $2.50 each.

“Our spring and fall bird seed sales are important fundraisers for the organization as all of our events are offered free to the public. Proceeds from this sale help to provide support for speaker fees for our public programs, maintenance and repairs of our preserves, bird feeder station grants to educational institutions, and more,” said MCA President Susan Schubel said in a news release from that organization.

All seed is ordered in advance. Make checks payable to Mid-Coast Audubon, and send to Seed Sale Sue, 12 Audubon Road, Bremen, ME 04551.

For more information, check MCA’s Facebook page, or email [email protected] and put BIRDSEED in the subject line.
