WATERVILLE — The halls of Waterville Senior High School were alive Wednesday with the sound of music.
Students at the school held a workshop with a professional string ensemble, followed by a performance afterward that also included a critically acclaimed Syrian musician named Kinan Azmeh, who’s featured as a clarinetist and composer on the 2017 Grammy Award-winning album “Sing Me Home.”
The ensemble that participated in the workshop and performance was Portland-based Palaver Strings, which works to strengthen communities through music.
About 80 students participated in the workshop. The performance they gave afterward in the high school auditorium was attended by about 300 students in grades six through 12.
Azmeh is scheduled to perform Sunday with Palaver Strings at the Space Gallery in Portland.
