MANCHESTER — Top seed Ryan Gay won a pair of close matches on Wednesday, to advance to the semifinals of the Maine State Golf Association’s Match Play Invitational at the Augusta Country Club

Gay beat Mark Plummer, 2 and 1, in Wednesday afternoon’s quarterfinal match. Gay took the lead on the third hole, and was ahead by two or three holes throughout the match. In the morning, Gay took a 1-up win over Chris Hamel.

Gay’s opponent in the semis will be Ricky Jones, who advanced with a 1-up win over Eric Crouse.
In the other semifinal, Matt Greenleaf will play Brian Bilodeau. Greenleaf beat defending champ Joe Alvarez in 19 holes, while Bilodeau took a 3 and 2 win over Mike Doran.
