Wilton has named one of its officers interim police chief.

Sgt. Richard Billian will serve as a temporary police chief until a permanent successor to Chief E. Page Reynolds , who resigned last month, is found, according to Billian.

Billian, 27, who was promoted to sergeant earlier this year, has worked seven years in the Wilton and Farmington police departments, he said.

He is an instructor of criminal investigation at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy, from where he graduated 2006. He graduated from Mount Blue High School in Farmington in 2002.

“I am very confident in our four full-time officers as well as having a cluster of professional volunteer police officers,” he said.

Billian, who did not apply for the position, said he intends to take an active role in the selection process for a new chief.

Billian lives with his wife and son in the Wilton area.
