The 30th anniversary of the Sheepscot River Race is scheduled to start at noon Saturday, July 1.

This six-mile canoe and kayak race will start in Newcastle at the U.S. Route 1 Rest Area Bridge and finish at the Wiscasset Waterfront in Wiscasset.

The course includes four miles of moving water meandering through protected marshes and riverbanks. This race is part of the Maine Canoe & Kayak Flat Water Racing Series, according to a news release from Seaspray Kayaking/Paddle Maine.

Awards and refreshments will follow the race at the Wiscasset Waterfront.

This race is organized and run by Seaspray Kayaking, with prize donations by several local businesses. All advance registered participants will receive a Sheepscot River River Race T-shirt.

Lifejackets must be worn.

Race classes: Racing /Recreational Canoeing:

• OC 1 Men & Women
• OC 2 Men, Women and Mixed, Adult/Youth
• War Canoes: 6 person and 10-plus person
• Kayaking: K-1 Men and Women, Youth
• Sea Kayak: K-1 Men and Women, Youth
• K-2 Open
• Paddleboards: Under 12 feet six inches and 12 feet six inches plus.

A shuttle from the finish line will be available immediately following the awards ceremony.

There will be restrooms, changing rooms and water at start and finish.

Awards go to the top three in each class, and there are many door prizes.

Registration will cost $20 per person and $5 for those younger than 17.
