Local student receives master’s degree

BOSTON — Melissa Herrick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Scott Herrick of Mount Vernon, Maine, has received a master’s degree in gastronomy from Boston University.

The Master of Arts in Gastronomy program examines the role of food in historical and contemporary societies, providing a holistic view of the impact of food, food science and nutrition on world cultures.

Herrick, who graduated with a 3.78 grade point average, is currently an assistant editor at America’s Test Kitchen in Brookline.

Tardiff graduates, receives degrees

PORTLAND — Victor C. Tardiff III, son of Victor and Meredith Tardiff, of Augusta, has graduated from the University of Southern Maine with a master’s degree in bio statistics and a bachelor’s degree in math.

Tardiff went to St. Mary’s School in Augusta through eighth grade and graduated from high school at the Maine School of Science and Mathematics in Limestone.

He will attend graduate school at the University of New Hampshire to obtain his doctorial degree in mathematics.

Pepin receives accounting award

SMITHFIELD, R.I. — Jamie Patricia Pepin of Augusta, Maine, received Bryant University’s Leander Francis Emin Endowed Homestead Award.

The award is presented to a graduating senior who has achieved scholastic excellence in accounting. Pepin received bachelor’s degree in accounting, summa cum laude.

Bryant University awards degrees

SMITHFIELD, R.I. — Two local students have graduated from Bryant University.

Courtney Elizabeth Gee, of South China, Maine, received a bachelor’s degree in international business in global supply chain management, cum laude.

Robert Gregory Harvey, of Readfield, Maine, received a bachelor’s degree in actuarial mathematics.

Local students receive dedrees

BURLINGTON, Vt. — Corbin Percy of Dresden, Maine, and Paige Rolfe of Farmingdale, Maine, have received degrees from Champlain College.

Percy received a bachelor’s degree in game programming. Rolfe received a bachelor’s degree in legal studies.

Students awarded fellows projects

CANTON, N.Y. — Two local students — Reid S. Brechner of Belgrade, Maine, and Carl R. Mayer of Winthrop, Maine — were named to the St. Lawrence University Fellows program and will conduct research with a faculty mentor during the summer session.

Brechner, class of 2015, is majoring in mathematics and art and art history. He is a graduate of Maine School Science and Mathematics.

Mayer, class of 2016, is majoring in biology. He graduated from Kents Hill School.
