Robert “Bob” Ray Gurney

MANCHESTER – Robert “Bob” Ray Gurney passed away at age 81, after a brief illness on Sept. 1, 2023, in the loving arms of his family. He was born in 1942 in Augusta, Maine, and grew up in Manchester. After graduating from Cony High School in 1961, Bob joined and served in the Army from 1963 to 1966, serving in Korea for much of his time. After returning home, he met the love of his life, Bonnie Marie Poulin Gurney. After owning Bob’s Shell Station for six years, they owned and operated the incredibly successful B & B Gasland and Auto Sales in Augusta, Maine, for over 36 years. Bob and Bonnie lived on Cobbosseecontee Lake in Manchester, Maine for over 50 years and enjoyed many good times and sunsets.

Bob was predeceased by his parents, Charles (Alphie) Gurney and Louise Snow Gurney Webster, and his best friend and brother, Alpha Gurney.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Gurney of Manchester; his daughter Kristina Stewart and husband, Larry of Wayne; grandson, Matthew Stewart, and his wife Amanda, of Brunswick, grandson, Chase “Manhattan” Stewart and his girlfriend Yasmine Wadleigh of Wayne, and granddaughter, Alexandria “Big AL” Stewart, of Wayne; great-grandchildren, Charlie, Alice, and Emma Stewart. He is also survived by his sister, Janice Durning, and her son, Michael, and wife, Terri Durning of Chesterville, Michigan; his sister-in-law, Georgie Gurney of Augusta; niece, Holly Gurney and her daughter, Elizabeth Gurney of Lewiston, niece, Valerie Gurney and husband Matthew Daniel, and their sons Riley and Parker Daniel, of Bedford, Massachusetts.

He leaves behind many wonderful longtime friends who meant so much to him.

Please come prepared with a story to share and join us for a celebration of life, open to all who knew and loved Bob, taking place on Sunday, September 24, from 2 – 4 p.m., located at the Lion’s Club, 25 Clubhouse Road, in Manchester, Maine.
