Thomas I. “Tommy” Smith
AUGUSTA – Thomas I. “Tommy” Smith, 85, passed away at the Alfond Center for Health on Oct. 1, 2023. He was born Dec. 14, 1937, a son of Isaac and Mary (Rodrigue) Smith.
Tommy attended local schools and graduated from Gardiner Area High School in the class of 1958. As a young man, Tommy worked on cars part-time and was employed at Kirshners for nearly 20 years after high school. Tommy eventually opened his own business, Tom’s Auto Repair, and worked alongside his wife, Bonnie, until her passing in 2021.
Tommy was a jack of all trades and could fix practically anything. He enjoyed the outdoors, and many memories were made: hunting up north with his longtime friends and fishing with his grandchildren. Tommy was also an avid sports fan and a lifelong supporter of the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Bonnie (Alexander) Smith; and his siblings: Frances Griffin, Dianne Meservey, Stanley Smith, Danny Smith, and Teddy Smith.
Tommy is survived by his daughters, Annette and Monica; granddaughters, Megan, Christina, Samantha, Mahryn, Amanda, and Cynthia; great-grandchildren, Samuel, Claire, Maliya, Amilya, and Shaniya; and his siblings, Joan O’Ben, and David Smith.
