EDMUNDS — Cobscook Bay State Park, located on the western shore of Cobscook Bay in Washington County, was recently the locale for the 61st annual Cobscook/Moosehorn International Scout Camporee.

More than 140 Scouts and Scouters attended the “Dungeons and Dragons” themed event, according to a news release from Chuck Mahaleris, district chairman for the Kennebec Valley District of Scouting.

James, left, and Brandon Gallant were happy with the Dungeons and Dragons themed weekend; part of the adventure was just getting there and back. They drove for days from their home in Ontario to take part.

The event was originally set for the weekend of Sept. 15-17 but Tropical Storm Lee forced the group organizers to delay the program a week.

The event drew Scouts from Skowhegan, Augusta, Gorham, Sidney, Hampden, Ellsworth, Winslow, Brewer, Oakland and Machias, as well as from the New Brunswick communities of Saint John, Westfield, Fredericton, and Moncton.

The program included the Great Knight Farce Obstacle Course, Send in the Meat Shield (Tomahawk Throwing), I Meant to Cast Magic Missile (Primitive Fire Building), Did Someone Need a Ranger? (Archery), and It’s Only a Flesh Wound (First Aid). There were also costume contests and random encounters similar to those players encounter in the game.

Christopher Bernier of Winslow served as co-campmaster of the event along with his brother Scott Bernier of Augusta.
