OXFORD – Eric Merciers Jr., 38, of Oxford, born May 1, 1985, died suddenly in a motorcycle accident on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2023. Eric led an active life and loved adventure. As a boy, he played soccer and football and learned to ski by taking lessons at Eaton Mountain. He learned to ride motorcycles from his dad, Randy Dixon. These two adventure sports became lifelong passions for him. He also enjoyed four-wheeling at his family home in Clinton, waterskiing at his grandparent’s camp on Moosehead Lake, and mountain biking on Maine trails.
Eric married his high school sweetheart, Danielle Vashon, after 10 years of dating. Together they enjoyed skiing, hiking, and kayaking. During their 10-year marriage, they had two children, Tatum and Jude. They brought him great joy. As each turned three, they were taught to ski as well. Eric loved spending time with his family – going on adventures: Skiing, hiking, biking and kayaking. Add in lots of snuggles, hugs and tickles, Eric leaves many precious memories for his children. A family tradition was going to Santa’s Village on Labor Day each year for almost 20 years. Bumper cars ruled the day.
Eric started his career with Littlefield Paving where he learned all about the asphalt industry. He went on to Pike Industries, working on a paving crew. He was promoted to foreman and ultimately, a quality control inspector. He transitioned from Pike to John Turner Consulting where he inspected both State and Federal asphalt projects. His last position was working in the lab for All States Materials Group as a quality control technician testing aggregates for construction projects.
Eric’s life had as many turns as the roads he worked and biked on. He met the love of his life, Lisa Starostecki, and they too enjoyed many adventures together. With her three children and his two, they spent time as a family making memories at the beach, exploring the outdoors, and going to Storyland.
Eric is survived by his previous wife, Danielle Merciers, and their children Tatum and Jude of Benton; partner Lisa Starostecki, and her children, Stefan, Sadie and JoJo of Oxford; mother Kimberly (Randy) Dixon of Clinton; father Eric Sr. (Lynn) Merciers of Elizabethtown, Ky.; sisters, Elizabeth Dixon of Waterville, Kate Dixon of Waterville, and Sarah Merciers of Elizabethtown, Ky.; stepbrother Joseph (Samantha) McNeill of Elizabethtown, Ky.; stepsister Rebecca (Jordan) Mullins of Greenville, Ind.; maternal grandmother, Dolores Sell of Willow Spring, N.C.; grandmother Janet Dixon of Clinton; many aunts/uncles, nieces/nephews and cousins.
