Barbara Jean (Jackson) Kasiola

AUGUSTA – Barbara Jean (Jackson) Kasiola, 80, of Pittston, died Nov. 10, 2023, at the Togus VA Medical Center, after a short battle with cancer, with her daughter, Jean Nolon, by her side. She was born Aug. 26, 1943, in Waltham, Mass., the daughter of Ralph and Barbara Jackson.  

Barbara graduated from Burlington High school in 1961 and served two years in the U.S. Army. She earned an associate degree from Midstate College in Augusta and was employed for 18 years by the Togus Veterans Administration, retiring in 2003.  

Barbara was an active member of the American Legion Smith-Wiley Post 4 in Gardiner, serving as chaplain, and was an auxiliary member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 887 in Augusta. She volunteered at the Togus VA Medical Center, and at the Maine Veteran’s Home, in the hospice and palliative care units. She was a participant in Honor Flight Maine, as well as an athlete in the Golden Age Games. She was also a member of the Kennebec Valley Veteran’s Honor Guard. Barbara was honored with a Hometown Hero award for her dedicated volunteer work on behalf of her fellow veterans. 

Barbara was an avid bowler, dancer, and traveler, and especially enjoyed going on cruises. She was also a member of the Oldies but Goodies Senior Center and the AARP Chapter 511. 

She was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Marilyn Cacciola, her son Stanley Kasiola, and her son in-law, Daniel Myshrall Jr.  

She is survived by her daughter, Jean Nolon, and son-in-law, Robert Nolon, her son, James Lamson; grandchildren Matthew Myshrall and his partner Leah Savage, Megan Myshrall, Kristen Howe and her husband, Joshua Howe; great grandchildren Jeremy, Jackson, Leighah, Gavin, Kailey, Alivia, Danica, and Gracelynn; and many other family and friends.  

A funeral service with full military honors will be held at 10 a.m., Dec. 1, 2023, at the Central Maine Veterans’ Cemetery at 143 Blue Star Ave in Augusta. A memorial service and celebration of life will follow at the American Legion Smith-Wiley Post 4 in Gardiner.  

The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at the Togus VA Medical Center, especially the hospice unit, for the outstanding care provided to Barbara.
