AUGUSTA — Capital Area Technical Center has announced its November professionals of the month.

Parker Sergent, a resident of Augusta and senior at Cony High School, is making waves both academically and athletically in the local community. As a dedicated student enrolled in the Business Academy, he has thrived in the college-like environment, honing his time management skills for a successful future, according to a news release from Stephanie Turgeon at the technical center.

According to his instructor, Cynthia Harris, “Parker is a leader, and he doesn’t hesitate to jump in and help his fellow classmates. He demonstrates a level of maturity often not seen in high school students. I fully expect that Parker will succeed in his future endeavors and make the most of the opportunities that are presented to him.”

Beyond the classroom, Sergent is a versatile athlete, participating in sports year-round. Recently concluding a successful football season, he achieved two school records. He has embarked on the basketball season with the ambitious goal of reaching 1000 high school points. Looking ahead to the spring, he will compete in track, showcasing his commitment to excellence in multiple sports.

Following his graduation from Cony, Sergent has set his sights on attending Thomas College, where he plans to major in sports management and minor in coaching. With a long-term goal of owning a training facility, he is determined to combine his passion for sports with a solid educational foundation.

Bailey Shink of Fayette, a senior at Maranacook Community High School in Readfield, has emerged as a culinary star, captivating both his peers and instructors with his talents in the Culinary Arts program. Enrolled for the second consecutive year, he has not only honed his skills but also taken on a mentoring role to guide first-year students in the program.

Shink’s passion for the culinary arts was evident last school year when, as a late addition to the program’s ProStart team, he faced minimal prep time. Despite the challenge, he and his team not only clinched victory at the state competition but went on to represent Maine at the prestigious National ProStart competition in Washington D.C. The experience fueled his enthusiasm, and he eagerly anticipates competing again this year.

Patrick Austin, his instructor, said “Bailey has truly grown over his time at Capital Area Technical Center. He has shown a real knack for cooking. His creativity and ability to innovate with ingredients proved him as a natural and born leader in the kitchen.”

Outside the culinary world, Shink is a member of the Alpine Ski team at Maranacook. Currently in his senior year, he is exploring various college options to further pursue his culinary aspirations.
