Marie (Melledy) Saunders

MONMOUTH – Marie (Melledy) Saunders of Monmouth, passed away Friday, Dec. 8, 2023, at the age of 68, after a long decline in health. Marie was adopted by Edward and Helen Melledy as an infant. She was their only child, but she is survived by a biological sister, Shauna Maine of California and two biological brothers, Dr. David Kelly of New York, and Dr. Daniel Kelly of Virginia, whom she happily connected with later in life. Marie is also survived by her husband of 38 years, Joe Saunders of Monmouth, whom she married in Enfield, Conn., on Dec. 22, 1984, by her daughter Melanie Lewandowski, and granddaughter Liahna Lewandowski of North Monmouth. Her granddaughter, Liahna was the apple of her eye, she loved time spent with her and the rest of her family. Marie attended Fermi High School in Enfield, Conn., and New Britain School of Nursing in Connecticut Upon graduating, she was employed as an Oncology Certified RN at Mission Regional Hospital in Mission Viejo, Calif., before moving to Maine and accepting employment at CMMC for a year, and then moving to Maine General Hospital, Emergency Department in Augusta, from which she retired due to her health.

At her request funeral services will be private.
