Lena Marie Walker
MANCHESTER – Lena Marie Walker, 81, of Manchester, died peacefully on Jan. 14, 2024, at her home in Manchester. Lena was born in Augusta on Aug. 13, 1942, to Stanley (Chum) and Rose Cram.
She attended Cony High School and was married to Bo Walker on Nov. 4, 1971. Together they shared a passion for their community and service to those in it. Lena was President of Manchester Lioness Club, where she was continually involved in community service and outreach. Lena partnered with Bo to run a successful business in construction, and also opened a popular coffee shop in the center of Manchester where she worked alongside her mother and daughter.
After her husband passed, Lena took her skills and became the assistant Manager for WalMart in Augusta. While there, Lena fostered a strong work family who, under her leadership, continued to pursue her love of service, raising over one million dollars for the Alfond Cancer center in Augusta.
Lena’s passion for life attracted many friends. When Lena was not working to better her community she enjoyed baking, camping, gardening, and most recently quilting. She developed a group of women affectionately known as “bitch n’ stitch’ that joined her to build many beautiful quilts. She loved teaching others the joy of sewing. When she wasn’t busy working on quilts she was doting on her second greatest love, her puppies.
Lena was predeceased by her husband and lifelong love, Floyd “Bo” Walker; her mother and father, Stanley “Chum” and Rose Cram; her brothers Clearance, Cecil and Keith; her grandchildren Todd Walker-Lambert, Miranda Walker and Bo Walker.
Lena is survived by her six children and their families, Kevin (Nellie), Mark (Dee), Nancy (Jerry), Patsy (David), Kelly (Toby), and Kerry (Jeremiah); her grandchildren, Korey, Jeremy, Jessika, Aashley, Brooke, Walker, Brandon, and Ross; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Rosalie Damon and brother, Stanley Cram Jr. “Jr”; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Feb. 17, at 11 a.m. at Manchester Community Church, 1 Readfield Rd., Manchester. A gathering will follow the service at The Manchester Lions Club.
