JAY — Two selectpersons are seeking reelection April 23, while two newcomers are candidates for two seats on the Regional School Unit 73 board of directors.

Selectpersons Terry Bergeron and Thomas “Tom” Goding are running for three-year terms.

Bryan Riley and Dawn Strout are seeking three-year terms on the school board. The seats are held by Chantelle Woodcock and Joel Pike, who are not seeking reelection.

Joseph Holley is running for a three-year term as a trustee of the Jay Village Water District.

No one filed papers for a three-year term for trustee of the North Jay Water District, a position held by Warren Bryant who died in December 2023. People may write in the name of a candidate.

Absentee ballots for the local election and municipal budget will be available March 22 at the Town Office. The last day to get one without a special circumstance is April 18.

Voting on the proposed $6.1 million municipal budget, changes to ordinances and election of officers will take place from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on April 23 in the community room downstairs at Spruce Mountain Middle School at 23 Community Drive.

Thursday is the last day to request an absentee ballot for the Maine presidential primary election March 5, unless a person qualifies for a special circumstance. Ballots are available at the Town Office or by calling 207-897-6785. Voting will be held from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. downstairs at the middle school.
