Harolyn Emerald Prescott
HALLOWELL – Harolyn Emerald Prescott, 90, died Feb. 28, 2024 at Woodlands Senior Living Center in Hallowell
She was born in Readfield on Oct. 11, 1933, the daughter of the late Harry and Marjorie (Smith) McKenney.
Harolyn was a graduate of Cony High, class of 1951, and went on to study at Gates Business School, graduating in 1952.
On Feb. 25, 1956 she married Melvin Charles Prescott, after which they raised five children and celebrated 62 incredible years of marriage together before Melvin’s passing on May 20, 2018.
Throughout her career, she was employed as a bookkeeper, first with H.P. Hood and Sons, then Mace Lumber, and lastly in the superintendent’s office at Maranacook Community School until her retirement. She also worked for a time thinning turnips for Charlie Elvin.
Harolyn and Melvin enjoyed square dancing from the early 1970s until shortly before Melvin’s passing, as well as cribbage and “63”. Their extensive travels took them to places such as Hawaii, Alaska, and Utah; a few of their favorites. They also enjoyed watching and supporting their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all the sports in which they participated. Harolyn liked her gardening and canning, and even enjoyed solitaire right up until she passed. People raved about her dill pickles!
