Letter cutter demo set for Skowhegan
SKOWHEGAN — Skowhegan History House Museum & Research Center will host Douglas Coffin, master letter cutter in stone, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, at the Skowhegan History House, 66 Elm St.
With a background in calligraphy, typography and graphic design, Coffin specializes in handcarving fine inscriptional letters and decorative motifs in stone. About one third of his work is on architectural donor walls, building inscriptions and plaques. The rest is in the designing and inscription of personal headstones or memorials.
Coffin will demonstrate his craft, speak about the history of the alphabet and letter forms.
