MONMOUTH — Sammy Calder pitched a five-inning no-hitter and Monmouth defeated Boothbay/Wiscasset 10-0 in baseball action Tuesday.
The win was the fifth consecutive for the Mustangs (8-1). Calder struck out eight batters and only allowed one walk to Boothbay/Wiscasset (4-6). He threw 55 pitches, including 38 for strikes.
No. 9 hitter Brandon Smith tallied a game-high three hits, drove in a run and scored a run for Monmouth (8-1). Freshmen Jake Harmon and Noah Schultz and sophomore Rory Foyt drove in two runs apiece. Harmon and Kyle Palleschi each doubled and scored two runs.
SOFTBALL
CARRABEC 5-12, FOREST HILLS 1-2: Jillian Robinson pitched both games of a doubleheader, allowing six total hits to lead the Cobras to the sweep in North Anson.
In Game 1, Landry had a home run Adawna Landry had a home run with two RBIs and a run scored. Lilliana Caldwell, Josephine Scheve and Robinson also had a single apiece.
In the second game, Caldwell had two singles, three RBI’s and two runs scored while Aiyana Tibbetts had two singles and two RBIs and Riley Crocker added a triple and a single, an RBI and scored twice.
Carrabec improves to 8-4 while Forest Hills falls to 4-6.
