Raymond W. Zayac

AUGUSTA – Raymond W. Zayac, 81, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2024 peacefully surrounded by family. He was born in Augusta on Jan. 16, 1943, a son of the late Walter and Amanda Zayac.

After attending Augusta schools, Ray began his working career at Edward’s Cotton Mill where he was employed for 13 years. After some time delivering milk for Brewer’s Dairy and working at Depositor’s Trust Bank, Ray worked at Digital as a maintenance mechanic before retiring.

In 1964, he married Constance Zayac (Charest) and they had five children. They were married for 44 years.

A beloved father, Ray was a hardworking, jack-of-all-trades and avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, gardening, reading, birdwatching, and playing the accordion and harmonica. But most of all, he loved spending time with his children. He enjoyed a private, simple life in the company of family and friends, preferably telling a funny story with a cup of coffee in hand.

Ray is survived by his sister, Theresa “Terri” Brown and her husband, William, of Readfield; his sons Walter Zayac and his wife Angela, of Richmond, Phillippe Zayac of Windsor and Jason Zayac of Augusta, his daughters Anne Zayac-Labrecque of Augusta and Amanda “Mandy” Terenzoni and her husband Steven, of China; six grandchildren, Joshua Zayac, Erin and William Gaudet, Bethany Labrecque, Madison and Mason Terenzoni; two great-grandchildren, Jack and Charlotte; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be greatly missed and the love he shared will continue to live on in our memories forever.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Woodlands Memory Care in Lewiston and the Andwell Health hospice team for the care and compassion they showed to Ray and his family.

A private family ceremony will be held in place of public visiting hours or service.

Arrangements are under the direction of Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. Condolences, photos and memories may be shared at http://www.plummerfh.com.
