READFIELD — A 71-year-old man was arrested Tuesday evening after he allegedly assaulted his ex-wife and refused to leave her residence on Morrill Road, according to Maine State Police.

Carl Hiebert, 71, of Belgrade, was arrested on charges of domestic violence criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, reckless conduct with a firearm and domestic violence assault, said Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Police received a call from Hiebert’s ex-wife at 6:02 p.m. on Tuesday after Hiebert allegedly assaulted her and brought a firearm into her home.
The ex-wife, who was not named, was able to make it out of the residence when police showed up, but her 41-year-old son who lives at the home with her was still inside with Hiebert.
Two officers from the Maine State Police and Kennebec County Sherriff’s department set up a perimeter around the house and the son was able to remove himself from the home, unharmed.
The Maine State Police Tactical Team and Crisis Negotiation Team responded to the residence and took Hiebert into custody.
Hiebert was transported to the Kennebec County Correctional Facility.
