ROCKLAND — Join Penobscot Bay Language School for a West African cultural event set for 6-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at 28 Gay St.
The follow up event will combine both its Cultural Kitchen program and New Mainer Performance series (highlighting performers from around the world living here in Maine).
An authentic West African dinner and an African drumming performance by Chef and Music Educator Jordan Benissan will be included, according to a news release from the school.
Benissan is known locally for his accomplishments at his Rockland based restaurant – Me Lon Togo – including national recognition with both television and magazine articles about his restaurant. What many people don’t necessarily know about Benissan is that he is also a world-renowned polyrhythmic expert and professor of music at Colby College in Waterville.
Proceeds from the dinner and a show fundraising event support educational program costs for Penobscot Bay Language School.
The $35 entrance fee includes a four course authentic West African meal and African drumming demonstration led by Chef/Professor Benissan.
Limited space is available, registration prior to the event is necessary to secure participation. Walk-ins will be permitted based on space availability.
