The wacky, fast-paced musical comedy, “Monsters! A Midlife Musical,” will be presented at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 16-18, at Deertrees Theatre in Harrison.

Committed to fostering original theatrical works, the show delves into the life of a woman who unshackles her inner monsters on her 40th birthday, with help from her mother, of course. This work, written by Deertrees Artistic Director Gail Phaneuf and Broadway lyricist Ernie Lijoi, makes its decade reprise at Deertrees, starring Katie Connor (“Patsy – Always… Patsy Cline”) as 40-year-old protagonist Samantha.

“This is outrageous musical comedy mirrors the absurdities of life,” shares Monsters’ Playwright/Director Gail Phaneuf. “The script explores the struggles of midlife – our attempts at securing control, and the universal human experience at life’s milestones. It asks the audience ‘Can I change my life at the age of 40 or beyond?’”

A fabulous score begs the question “Have you faced your Monsters?” The cast, with some actors returning from “Monsters!” world premiere production, includes actors Katie Connor as Samantha, Bill Spera as Body, Patti Hathaway as Apathy, Teresa Dyer at Mother, Gail Phaneuf as Fear, and Rylee Doiron as Birthday Girl.
