Doris Grosz
CUMBERLAND FORESIDE – Doris Grosz passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at the Heron House in Cumberland, at the age of 95. Doris was born on May 6, 1929 in Caribou to Rene Pelletier and Edwina (Bouchard) Pelletier.
She later moved to Augusta where she graduated from Cony High School, married Romeo Dube in 1949 and raised her four children, Judy, Nancy, Timothy and Glenn.
She worked for many years as an insurance agent/office manager for Charles Downing Insurance and later at Macomber Farr and Whitten Insurance in Augusta. She was well known for her smile, friendly disposition, knowledge and professionalism. That smile, disposition and friendly personality would in her later years continue to be her most memorable characteristic, no matter what challenges she was facing.
Her daughters will always remember Doris for her support of their dancing activities and the many beautiful costumes she hand made for them! Glenn is especially thankful for Doris’ continued support, attendance and enthusiasm at his many softball games over the years! Tim loved Doris’ general demeanor and how readily she engaged in conversations with others, a trait that Tim came to recognize in himself that they had in common. He loved Doris for being a “saint”, something he told her often!
She married Marvin Grosz in December, 1975, and they lived in Pittsfield for a few years before moving back to Augusta where she continued her insurance career until her retirement. Not one to be bored, Doris worked at a daycare for a while and was a volunteer at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta for several years.
She was predeceased by her parents, a son, Dennis Dube and a stepson, Timmy Grosz.
Doris is survived by her children, Judy St.Hilaire and husband Norman of Scarborough, Nancy Jacques of Mt. Vernon, Timothy Dube of Mt. Vernon and Glenn and wife Evelyn Dube of Norridgewock; stepchildren,, Cindy and Steven Grosz of Vermont, Sharon Norwood of Augusta and Duane Grosz and partner Mickey Jarosch of Vassalboro; plus numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends may visit on Wednesday, August 21 from 9 – 11 a.m. at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial and committal prayers will follow at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Dr., Augusta.
It is with sincere gratitude that the family would like to thank the Heron House and its wonderful dedicated staff for the extraordinary care and love for Doris throughout her time with them. They were one of the reasons that everyone saw Doris’ everlasting smile each day!
