Charles “Charlie” Grotton

GARDINER – Charles “Charlie” Grotton passed away on Sept. 29, 2024, at the age of 94, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and an infectious spirit of fun. His sense of humor and readiness to lend a helping hand were his trademarks, making him a cherished figure among his family, friends, and his neighbors.

He was born on June 25, 1930, to Albert and Gladys (Crockett) Grotton of West Gardiner. He was one of 13 children. He was an accountant for the State of Maine and retired at the age of 60. He was an accomplished gardener and enjoyed “rock hounding” and watching harness racing with friends and family. His happiest times were spent with his loved ones, enjoying their company and the simple pleasures of family and friendship.

Charlie is survived by his daughters, Deborah G. Lichtenwalner and husband Lee of Macungie, Pa., and Val Hiscock and husband Mark of Wynnewood, Pa. He leaves behind his five grandsons, Matthew Lichtenwalner, Benjamin Lichtenwalner, his wife, Trina, Joshua Lichtenwalner, his wife, Angela, Zack Hiscock, and Eli Hiscock. He also leaves four great grandsons, Christian, Gabriel, Isiah, and Westley Lichtenwalner. He is survived by sisters, Gladys Roberts, Marion Miller and Peggy Roy. He was a favorite “Uncle Charlie” to several nieces and nephews and their families. He will be sorely missed by his close friend Lois Joslyn, and a special thank you goes to his niece Jackie Cyr who was a tremendous help to him, especially in recent years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Grotton, his mother, Gladys (Crocket) Grotton; several siblings; and his beloved wife, Dorothy (Snow) Grotton.

The family would like to thank the staff at the VA Home in Augusta for their excellent care and support during his stay.
