WINTHROP — The Winthrop/Maranacook field hockey team, already unbeaten, earned another distinction prior to the start of the postseason, claiming the conference title by defeating Hall-Dale/Monmouth 1-0 in the Mountain Valley Conference championship on Wednesday.
Freshman Evelyn Mortimer scored the game’s only goal for the Ramblers (14-0). Goalie Cyara Harriman helped secure the victory by stopping two penalty strokes.
Winthrop will be the No. 1 seed in the Class C South playoffs, which begin next week. The Ramblers will be vying for their fourth consecutive state title.
