Arlene Anita (Malaney) Allen Gervais
CHELSEA – Arlene Anita Malaney Allen Gervais, 93, died peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2024, at MaineGeneral Rehab and Nursing at Graybirch, her loving family was by her side.
Arlene was born at home in Chelsea on Aug. 16, 1931, the daughter of the late James W. and Gertrude P. (Marquis) Malaney. She attended St. Mary’s School in Augusta and graduated from Cony High School in the class of 1950. She worked for 15 years as a nurse’s aide at VA Medical Center, Togus.
Arlene volunteered at the Knights of Columbus bingo in Gardiner on Friday nights in the kitchen for many years, she always looked forward to seeing her many friends she had made there. Arlene was always knitting either socks or mittens to give away, carrying on her mother’s gift of giving. She also looked forward to her trips to the casino.
Arlene was predeceased by a brother, Billy, her sisters Leona Morgan, Christine McKay, Louise Downer and her husband Roland; former husband, Sanford Allen; granddaughters Crystal and Melissa Allen, grandson, Christopher Thompson.
She is survived by her daughters Sandra McNeil and her husband Tom of Pittsfield, Charlene McFarland and her husband Chuck of West Gardiner, Barbara Claudel and her husband Slater of Palermo, sons Thomas Allen of Chelsea, Jeffrey Allen of Chelsea, and Wayne Allen and his wife Paula of N. Whitefield; 14 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren; cousins; nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours celebrating Arlene’s life will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 19, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 10 a.m. at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, 110 School St., Gardiner. Burial will follow in Cherry Hill Cemetery, West Gardiner.
