TURNER — The Androscoggin Chapter of the Maine Women’s Network is teaming up with Axe Women Loggers of Maine to offer a women’s basic chainsaw skills and safety class.
Two time options are available for the three-hour class, 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 23, at the pavilion at Ricker Hill Tasting Room at 11 Ricker Hill Road.
The class emphasizes safety and basic chainsaw knowledge and includes a safety equipment tutorial, identification of the parts of the saw, starting procedures, chain replacement, basic maintenance, fuels, and simple cuts. Safety-toed footwear and leather gloves are required, but all other equipment, including chaps, saws and other safety equipment, will be provided.
Instructor Allison Wetherbee, a world timbersports champion, competes in axe throwing, log rolling, chopping and sawing. She works to preserve the history and heritage of logging spots in her work as a board member for the Maine Forest and Logging Museum in Bradley.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
