Ellen Dunn Guerette

WINTHROP – Ellen Dunn Guerette, 86, died peacefully at home on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Augusta, Maine to Leo F. Dunn and Margaret Cunningham Dunn. She grew up at 10 Dayton Street, as the seventh of nine children in the gregarious Dunn family. She is survived by her siblings Janet Briggs, Kitty Perry and Bill Dunn. She was predeceased by her siblings Leo “Sonny” Dunn, Mary McLaughlin, Margaret Russell, Ed Dunn, and Dave Dunn.

Ellen graduated from Cony High School and Farmington Teachers’ College. She worked as a teacher, then later as a kitchen designer. She also served as a volunteer for many organizations throughout her life.

She married Roger L. Guerette of Winthrop on July 9, 1960. They enjoyed 50 beautiful years together building memories and a family. Ellen was a tremendous supporter of their five children and is survived by Abbie Guerette Hartford, Charlie Guerette and his wife Heidi, Mary Wade and her husband Hugh, Rachel Olbrys and her husband Joe, and Jennifer Samiotes and her husband George.

Along with her grandchildren she loved spending time and creating memories with her great grandchildren Easten, Josephine, Thomas, Ellie Mae, Elliott, Phoebe, Forrest and Harrison.

Ellen loved summers at her special place, the family camp on Cobbossee Lake. With the hubbub of kids, grandkids, and friends, camp time brought her joy. This summer she hosted the 90th Dunn Family fourth of July gathering. Her beloved dog, Olivia, predeceased her this year.

Throughout her lifetime she dabbled in many, many arts and crafts and left us with dolls, rugs, sewing and knitting projects and many fabulous paintings and drawings. In later years she truly enjoyed her art classes and attending Senior College classes of many subjects.

She greatly appreciated her “yoga ladies”, attending classes weekly with her core group for many years. She also valued her “church ladies” and gathering for breakfast after church. Yoga, art and church led to the forming of many lasting friendships.
