Howard “Buzz” Haas
READFIELD – Howard “Buzz” Haas, 79, of Readfield, Maine, passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 31, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Jan. 20, 1945, to Howard and Elizabeth Haas.
Buzz was a proud member of IBEW Local 1253 and built a distinguished career as an electrician and electrical technician. His work took him to remarkable places, including Steamboat Resorts in Steamboat Springs, Colo., and Disney World in Orlando, Fla. Most recently, he applied his skills at Kent’s Hill in Readfield, where he maintained electrical systems and operated the ski lift.
Buzz found joy in lakeside living and embraced a variety of hobbies that reflected his love for the outdoors and craftsmanship. He enjoyed skiing, canoeing, remodeling projects, and refinishing furniture. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family.
He was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Elizabeth Haas, and his son-in-law, Bill Hiatt. Buzz is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Betty Lou Haas of Readfield; his sisters Sandy Sorensen of Golden, Colo. and Heather Haas of Honolulu, Hawaii; his daughters Michelle Hiatt of Denver, Colo. and Jennifer Hopkins and her husband Barry Hopkins of Winslow; and his beloved grandchildren Autumn Houck and her husband Jesse Houck of Monmouth, Sierra Swett and her husband Benjaman Swett of Washington, Maine, and Quinn Hiatt of Boulder, Colo.
Buzz will be remembered for his dedication to his craft, his love for adventure and family, and the joy he brought to those who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to all who mourn his passing.
A celebration of life for Buzz will be held this summer.
