READFIELD – Eva Marie Dion, lovingly known as “Mem,” passed away peacefully at her home in Readfield, Maine, on Jan. 9, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on June 9, 1930, Eva grew up in Eagle Lake, Maine, as one of ten siblings, with eight sisters and one brother. For 23 years, she was employed at the Augusta Maine Mental Health Institute and was also a member of the Maine State Retirees Association, the Benevolent & Protective Order of the Elks, and St. Michael’s Parish. She developed a lifelong love for the outdoors, finding joy in fishing and hunting. Summers were spent at Pemaquid and Old Orchard Beach, where she cherished time with friends and family.
Eva shared a special bond with a close-knit group of friends who called themselves the “WETSU,” an acronym for “We Eat This S— Up,” reflecting Eva’s great sense of humor.
A passionate card player, Eva enjoyed countless games of cribbage with friends and family and could often be found playing solitaire on her iPad. She was always up for a trip to the Bangor casino, where she embraced the excitement of the tables.
Eva’s kind, loving, bold, and let’s not forget spunky personality will undoubtedly leave a mark on those who knew and loved her.
Eva was predeceased by her parents Luke and Edna (Clavette) Parent, her son Jeffrey Dion, and her siblings: Leonard Parent, Sylvia Gallagher, Thelma Morgan, Norma Faucher, Patricia Morgan and Bertha Arbour.
She is survived by her children: Donna Black and Dale Dion; grandchildren: Chasity Kroot, Missy Black, Shane Tuggle and his partner Jodi, Amber Dion and her partner Leland, Heather Black, Star Karczewski and her husband Dylan, and Heidi Tuggle and her partner Greg; great-grandchildren: Mariah, Cadence, Abel, Quentin, Isabella, Delilah, Amora, Reese, Maggie, Addison, Billy, Mackenzie, and Cameron; three great-great grandchildren: Aria, Harper, and Saylor; two sisters Juanita Wilson and Barbara Adkins; and many nieces and nephews including special nieces: Terry Laflamme, Carol Gray, and Debbie Rodrigue. In addition, she will be missed by her beloved cat, Meeko.
No services are being held per Eva’s request. A celebration of life will take place on a future date, to celebrate what would have been her 95th birthday. Arrangements have been entrusted to Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME 04330. Condolences, stories, and photos may be shared by visiting http://www.plummerfh.com.
