Regarding Jan. 26, Justin Davis “Firearms rights are under assault in Maine”: The Second Amendment of the Constitution is a mere 27 words but the gun lobby folks never mention the first 13 words, “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State …”
One must have a powerful imagination to believe that the authors of that amendment, who knew only single-shot, muzzle-loading guns, would not see the need to control today’s firepower free-for-all. Davis’s macho male fantasies and modern guns endanger us all. We are long overdue for reform.
