The Department of Education was created to help ensure that the children of states who could not afford to spend a lot on education would not grow up in schools without resources. This is especially important when we consider the lives of special needs students that cannot be educated well in public schools such as students with emotional, mental and physical disabilities.
In Maine, there are 28 Special Purpose Private Schools who care for the medical and educational needs of Maine students. Many of these schools are supported by federal funding handled by the Department of Education.
Please call your Representatives and Senators and even the White House so that these critical funds continue to reach our most vulnerable Maine students.
