
WATERVILLE — The Alfond Youth & Community Center has hired Matt Reed as head coach for its Mid-Maine Dolphins Swim Team.
Reed brings over a decade of coaching experience at the YMCA, USA Swimming, and high school levels. With a background in program development, he has grown teams and guided athletes to new levels of success in and out of the pool, according to a center news release.
The Waterville resident has served as director of aquatics, safety and education, as well as head coach for the Twin Cities Swim Team at YMCA of Auburn-Lewiston, since 2022. He was recognized as the 2024-25 YMCA Swim Coach of the Year, and was had swim coach for Winslow High School and the AYCC aquatics director from 2014-17.
Reed is also an active member of the Maine Air National Guard. As a career enlisted aviator, he performs aircrew duties and in-flight refueling operations. He served in the U.S. Air Force as an instructor airborne communications systems tech from 2017-21.
