AUGUSTA/CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Barbara Jones Potter, 92, late of Cambridge Mass. and Augusta, Maine, daughter of Raymond C. Jones and Grace Mansir Jones of Randolph, Maine, passed on March 19, 2025 in Cambridge, Mass. following a brief illness.

She was born on Sept. 30, 1932, at Gardiner General Hospital and raised in Randolph. After graduating from Gardiner High School in 1950 she attended Central Maine General (now Central Maine Medical Center) School of Nursing, graduating with her RN in 1953.

Barbara married Roderick K. Potter on June 25, 1955 in Gardiner. After Rod graduated from General Theological Seminary in 1963 the family relocated to Farmington, Maine where she loved being Mom to Susan and Thomas. In 1980 they moved to Minneapolis where she was able to have a second career working in addiction treatment. Following Rod’s stroke in 1982 they moved home to Maine. In her 50’s and 60’s Barbara was delighted to have a third career working with the blind and visually impaired.

One of Barbara’s joys in life was travel. In her later life she took several cruises to Northern Europe, Alaska, Bermuda and the Caribbean with her daughter Susan and family. She went to Europe and England with son Thomas and family. There were also multiple trips to Florida to see sister Shirley.

Barbara was predeceased by her husband Roderick. She is survived by her daughter Susan Potter of West Gardiner, son Thomas Potter and his family; brother George Jones of Augusta, sister Shirley Jordan of Augusta, sister-in-law Priscilla Hirschenhofer of Hancock; six grandchildren including Christina Chiaravalloti and her husband Ron Cucolo of Augusta, Joseph Chiaravalloti, and Maya Hughes; three great-grandchildren, Grace Visconti, Johnnie Coculo, and Mary Coculo; many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 27, at Christ Church on the Common, Gardiner. The funeral will be held Friday March 28 at 1 p.m. also at Christ Church. A reception will follow.
