OAKLAND – Clayton Edward Paradis passed away on Dec. 28, 2024, after a brief illness.

Born in Waterville on June 24, 1934, to Edward and Ora (Libby) Paradis, Clayton grew up in Jackman and Waterville, attending schools in both towns. After graduating high school, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy. Upon his return, he worked as a truck driver for Bird & Son before joining C.F. Hathaway Company, where he remained until his retirement.

He met his beloved wife, Yvette Gagnon, in 1958 while working for her father at Waterville Dairy. They married on May 7, 1960, and together raised four children.

Clayton had a passion for softball and could often be found umpiring and announcing games at Couture Field in Waterville. He cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed traveling with Yvette, visiting places like New York, Texas, Pennsylvania, and Florida, with their most recent adventure being a Caribbean cruise in 2014. He was a communicant of Corpus Christi Parish and back in the 1980’s he was a member of the folk group at the 9:30 a.m. mass.

Clayton was predeceased by his parents, Ora and Edward Paradis; his sister, Joan (Paradis) MacLean, his brother, James Paradis; his in-laws, Laura and Raymond Gagnon; his brothers-in-law, Steve Shaw and Ronald Laliberte; nephew Steve MacLean; and his great-granddaughter, Mariana Yvette Estes.

Lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 64 years, Yvette; his children: son Timothy (Wendy) Paradis, daughters Kathleen Paradis and life partner Arthur Jones, Marsha (Jeffrey) Flye, Karen (Slaid) Cleaves. He is also survived by his in-laws Rachel (Donald) Paradis, Donna Shaw, Roger (Karen) Gagnon, Emily (Kevin) O’Leary, Linda (Lionel) Fisher, Joan Laliberte, Carolyn Paradis, Ken (Patricia) MacLean; along with many nieces and nephews who referred to him as Uncle Chucky.

Clayton was a proud grandfather (Grampy) to Alyssa (Kenny) Estes, Chelsea (Michael) Tulley Christopher Flye, Madeleine (Conner) Paradis, Genevieve Paradis, Kristen Peterson and David Jones. He was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Logan and Mason Tulley, and Ivy Estes.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on June 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Notre Dame Church in Waterville. A committal service will follow at LakeView Cemetery in Oakland, with a reception immediately following at the Oakland American Legion on Church Street in Oakland.

Clayton’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses at MaineGeneral in Augusta and Glenridge in Augusta for their compassionate care during his final weeks.

“He will always be here with us no matter where we roam. So cherished and remembered within our hearts, he is home.”
