James Chandler
HALLOWELL – James Chandler (born Jan. 15, 1938) died March 26, 2025, of natural causes.
He resided in New Gloucester with his parents, John and Erma Chandler, and sister, Anna, until 1963. After graduating the University of Maine in 1960, with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering, he began a long career with the Maine Department of Transportation. He resided in Hallowell from 1967 until his last days.
Jim was predeceased by his parents; sister; and wife of 38 years, Dolores Chandler.
He is survived by his children, Susanne Chandler (George Crumley) and Peter Chandler (Kirk Webber), stepdaughters Holly Hersey and Heidi Hamilton; along with grandchildren, including Meg Anderson, Amy Landry, Heather Stone, Shannon Jagger, Dan Frappier and Anthony Frappier.
Jim had fond memories of skiing, skating, hiking and swimming with the young children and grandchildren. He would like to be remembered as a faithful husband and loving father, as well as a good friend and dependable colleague. He also hoped that his actions spoke louder than his words.
At Jim’s request, there will be no funeral service or visitation. A Masonic Service with committal will be held in the Hallowell Cemetery, at a date to be determined. Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the Staples Funeral Home website http://www.StaplesFuneralHome.com
