Charles Erman Plaisted

BELGRADE – Charles Erman Plaisted, 70, passed away peacefully at Togus VA Medical Center on May 12, 2025. He was born in Augusta on Nov. 3, 1954, to the late Delbert and Marie (Bechard) Plaisted.

Charles left high school in the 11th grade to enlist into the United States Navy where he proudly served his country during Vietnam. He served from 1973-1975 as an engine mechanic on the Oceanographic Unit Five, USNS Harkness ship. He was also trained as a military fireman. Charles achieved EN-3 ranking while in the Navy. He later earned his GED and attended college at the University of Maine at Augusta.

Charles worked as a claims clerk for the VA for 15 years and happily retired in 1995. During his employment at the Veteran’s Administration, Charles received many awards and certificates of recognition.

In his free time, he deeply enjoyed hunting with his brothers, fishing, spending time with his family, helping others and watching old westerns on television.

In addition to his parents, Charles is predeceased by his niece, Samantha Davis Gay and nephew, O’Brien Plaisted.

He is survived by his daughter Constance Breger and her wife Melissa Breger of New Sharon, son Keith Plaisted of Augusta; grandsons Terrall Plaisted and Ethan Veilleux both of Augusta, granddaughter Kyler Breger of New Sharon; brother Brian Plaisted and his wife Bobbie Jo of Belgrade, brother David Plaisted and his wife Ella of Belgrade, sister Doreen Davis and her husband Randy of Belgrade, and sister Tina Clement and her husband Wayne of Rome. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday May 20, 2025, from 2 – 4 p.m. at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St. Augusta. A funeral service will follow immediately after visitation. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.

Interment will take place on Tuesday May 27, 2025, at 12 noon at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta, where Charles will receive full military honors.

Arrangements are in the care of Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1 Church Street, Augusta, Maine.
