Guy Meader
READFIELD – On May 2, 2025, Guy lost his courageous battle with renal cell carcinoma sarcoma. He was born on April 17, 1980, in Augusta, to Lawrence and Lorna Meader. Guy lived a life filled with compassion, generosity, kindness, humor — and Legos.
Guy’s first love was his family. He was a devoted son to his parents, a loving brother, and a caring uncle. One of his favorite traditions was Friday night family dinners. He could always be found playing with the kids, joking with family members, and simply enjoying the moment. Guy was the king of dad jokes and puns — the kind that made the kids groan and roll their eyes, though secretly, they loved hearing them.
On June 30, 2007, Guy married his soulmate, Roxanne. In 2011, their miracle baby, Leila, was born. Guy loved being a father — the joy on his face when Leila was placed in his arms was indescribable. As a teacher, he was able to be a stay-at-home dad during the summers and cherished that time with her. In 2015, the family met two children who would soon become part of their lives. From the moment Jensen climbed up his leg, Guy knew he was meant to be his dad. In 2017, Jensen and Addie made their family complete. He was a devoted father, wholeheartedly committed to his children. His love for them was immeasurable.
Guy’s commitment to helping others led him to a 24-year career in teaching. He was hired by the Augusta School Department as a Title One math teacher, later becoming a classroom teacher. He spent most of his career as a 6th-grade teacher at Sylvio J. Gilbert Elementary School. Guy loved teaching and was well-known for his colorful ties. His passion extended beyond the classroom — he used TikTok to teach math and YouTube to share Maine lore. Always humble and content to work behind the scenes, he never sought recognition. He was deeply dedicated to Gilbert, ensuring not only the success of his students but the wellbeing of the entire school. As one former student said, “The world needs more Mr. Meaders.”
Guy was predeceased by his father, Lawrence; a special uncle, Lou; and his father-in-law, Henry Noonan. He is survived by his wife, Roxanne; children Leila, Jensen, and Addie; his mother, Lorna Meader; his brothers Lawrence (with Jodi, Lilli, and Becca) and Josh (with Amelia, Shaun, Allison, and Iris). He is also survived by his grandfather, Wayne Pare; aunts and uncles Becky and Gene Thayer, Jon and Michelle Pare, Bob and Muriel Meader, and Margaret Hawes; as well as in-laws Dawn, Jennifer, Levale, Kira, and LJ. Special cousins Curtis, Christal, and little Addy, along with countless friends and students, also grieve this great loss.
Guy’s Celebration of Life will be held on May 31, 2025, at 1 p.m. in the Cony High School Auditorium in Augusta. The family requests that the celebration be joyful — please wear bright colors and, if you have one, a tie in Guy’s honor.
