Jason Lach scored eight goals and the Bowdoin men’s lacrosse team beat Christopher Newport University 19-11 to reach the Final Four in the NCAA Division III tournament on Saturday in Medford, Massachusetts.
The Polar Bears (15-6) will face NESCAC rival Tufts at 7:30 p.m. Sunday for a berth in the national championship game. Tufts advanced with a 17-9 win over Gettsyburg.
Lach and Sam Raye-Steiner both scored three goals in the first quarter as the Polar Bears jumped out to a 7-2 lead. They stretched the lead to 10-4 in the second quarter before Christopher Newport pulled within 10-6 with two straight goals to start the third quarter.
The Polar Bears went on a 4-0 run to and the third to pull away. Lach scored three times during that stretch.
Raye-Steiner finished with four goals, while Patrick Fitzgerald had three goals and an assist for Bowdoin. Chris Berry had two goals and an assist, while Jed Hoggard also scored.
Robert Hobbs stopped eight shots for the Polar Bears.
Jamie Smith scored five goals for Christopher Newport. Jackson Platner added three goals, and Kevin Miller had two goals and three assists.
