Thomas F. Clary

LITCHFIELD – Thomas F. Clary, of Litchfield, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2025, at Glenridge Nursing Home after suffering with Alzheimer’s disease.

Tom was born on Nov. 25, 1937, to Raymond and Cora Clary of Gardiner.

He joined the Army National Guards in January 1955 to January 1961. He joined the Navy Seabees in 1961 to 1965.

After graduating from Gardiner High School in 1956, Tom joined CMP as a grounds man apprentice in Augusta. There, he had served as a line office supervisor for 37 years. After retirement he worked for Shaw’s Brothers for a while.

On Sept. 12, 1958, Tom married Elaine Wardwell of Litchfield. After 12 years of living in Hallowell and Augusta, they built a house in Litchfield, where they raised three children and served their community.

In the 54 years Tom lived in Litchfield, he was a pillar to his community!! He was a member and electrician of the Litchfield Fair Association, member and treasurer of the Sportsman’s Club, a volunteer fireman. Also, a member of the snowmobile club, was on the school board committee, and treasurer and deacon of the Plains Baptist Church. He even worked part time at the Cobbossee Colony Golf Course!!

Tom loved to play golf, bowling, and hockey. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Tom leaves behind his wife, Elaine Clary of 66 years; a daughter, Deborah Clary-Atwood, and husband Stephen, a daughter, Cynthia Poole, and husband Kent, a son, Michael Clary, and wife Trish; a sister, Sue Olsen, and husband Ralph, a sister, Sheila Crocker, and husband William (predeceased); Also, five grandchildren, Mallory Rodrique, and husband Jake, Dustin Brooks, Alyssa Angell, Miranda Brooks, and Daisi Poole; plus nine great-grandchildren.

Tom was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, son and friend. He will be deeply missed!!

Tom’s memorial service will be held at the Plains Baptist Church in Litchfield on Friday, May 30, at 11 a.m., a military committal service will follow at the Litchfield Plains Cemetery.

Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner.
